Mast – The mast assembly is inserted into a live or de-energized bus. The mast assembly contains contacts which when actuated by the cam action lever rotate out to make contact with the bus bars within the aluminum busrail.
Contacts – The four contacts are hinged and engage the bus bars when the cam action lever is engaged. These contacts are coated with a processed and bonded copper-beryllium material eliminating surface oxidation, dramatically improving the surface-to-surface contact point.
Cam Action Lever & Slide – The cam action lever and slide utilizes a “medicine bottle” knob (depress and turn) to lock and unlock the slide which engages and disengages the contacts from the busbars. This knob slides from left to right to engage the contacts and from right to left to disengage.
Circuit Breaker – Choose your brand and style of circuit breaker as the modular construction of our tap off box allows up to six breaker poles and 80A of total power.
Enclosure – Our ETL tested and approved enclosure is engineered with modularity in mind. Choose breaker brand, size and style, receptacle type and location and cable whip lengths to fit your particular needs.
Grounding Spades – When the Tap Off unit is inserted into the open bus channel, the grounding spade connections are made. Only after the Tap Off unit has been seated properly can the Tap Off unit be energized.
Receptacles & Cable Whips – (Not Shown) Your choice of plug receptacle or cable whip including length can be placed on the bottom or sides of the tap off box.
Integrated Power Monitoring – (Not Shown) PDI’s patented branch circuit monitoring solution can be integrated into the tap off box as an optional solution enabling power monitoring at the branch circuit.

Safety – Our two-step process of mechanically engaging and thus grounding the tap off box to the busrail before energizing reduces the risk associated with arc flash.
Flexibility – A tap off box built for our 160A system can also be utilized with our 225A, 250A and 400A systems. Our use of modular manufacturing techniques enables interchangeability which extends the product life.
Integrated Monitoring – In order to manage your power usage you must first monitor. With our optional and integrated BCMS Solution (Branch Circuit Monitoring System) you can monitor power for both the entire busrail and individual branch circuits.
