Upgraded PowerWave Bus System Brings Higher Density and Flexibility to World’s Leading Power Distribution Equipment

Richmond, Virginia, – November 11, 2012 – Continuing to charge its presence in the energy distribution marketplace, Power Distribution, Inc. (PDI) today announced significant upgrades to the company’s premier overhead busway power distribution system. PDI is a Smiths Interconnect business and leading provider of mission-critical power distribution equipment for data centers, alternative energy, industrial and commercial power markets.

Available immediately, the updated PowerWave Bus System™ now introduces 600 and 800 amp capacity – addressing the industry’s growing demands for higher density and design flexibility. The PowerWave system with Toughrail Technology™ offers a complete line of fully compatible, continuous opening, plug-in busway – safely distributing power for any critical application.

According to recent analyst reports, typical data centers waste as much as 30 times the amount of electricity used to carry out basic infrastructure functions. PDI’s PowerWave solution is specifically designed to address this waste and ensure more efficient energy distribution and usage.

“The fact of the matter is, data centers are typically viewed as energy hogs – consuming nearly two percent of all energy used in the United States,” said Dave Mulholland, Vice President of Marketing, Service at PDI. “Our PowerWave system is architected to drive efficient power usage – helping create highly-efficient data centers. The upgraded PowerWave solution takes this one step further – meeting increasing demands for higher density.”

PDI’s structured bus design incorporates key patent-pending features driven by the company’s integrated communications technology. Businesses across the globe are increasingly turning to PDI for its market-leading ability to provide:

Reliability: Tested at up to 200 percent of rating.

Traceability: Clearly defined distribution with zero footprint for easy, visible tracing of circuits.

Re-Configurability: Easily removed, re-used, or moved in its entirety.

Low Heat Source: Reduced power concentration within the busway system for distributed heat dissipation.

Tap Off Units: Continuous bus allows for distribution of power tap off points at any location along the system, with tap offs added or removed at any time. Tap offs are added as servers populate the racks.

Load Specific: Tap Off Units are 100 percent configurable to meet all load demands and specific load requirements, including monitoring down to the branch circuit level.

Visual Installation Indicators: The system is developed with visible installation features for users to check that the configuration is securely installed prior to commissioning and start-up.

Communications: Optional integrated communication provides all features in the power distribution unit or remote power panels without the footprint, and with complete integration into to several different PDI monitoring solutions including a cloud based system.

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of the company’s growing success in the U.S. and international markets. Due to increased demand, PDI has announced a new international Web site dedicated to the PowerWave Bus System™ that translates into seven different languages with an additional 50 languages available. The site will be used to share new product information and the address is http://powerwavebus.com.

Leader in Mission-Critical Power Distribution Equipment Participates in Formation of Central Virginia 7x24 Exchange Chapter

Richmond, Virginia, – September 13, 2012 – Energizing local presence of the market’s leading knowledge exchange for those who design, build, operate and maintain key enterprise information infrastructures, Power Distribution, Inc. (PDI) today announced their participation in the founding of Central Virginia’s 7x24 Exchange Chapter. PDI is a Smiths Interconnect business and leading provider of mission-critical power distribution equipment for data centers, alternative energy, industrial and commercial power markets.

“7x24 Exchange International is excited about the formation of the Central Virginia Chapter. Virginia has a high concentration of data centers and companies operating these data centers will benefit greatly from the education, networking, and information sharing provided by the 7x24 Exchange Central Virginia Chapter,” said Bob Cassiliano, chairman and CEO, 7x24 Exchange International.

Several companies are responsible for the founding and support of the Central Virginia Chapter of 7x24 Exchange: PDI, Syska Hennesy, Chapman Co, DC Technology, Inc., Truland Electrical, Peak 10 Data Center, and QTS, just to name a few.

“7x24 Exchange is all about collaboration and communication. It’s our goal to offer an educational forum where industry leaders across a broad range of disciplines – from technology and information services to facilities, engineering and real estate – can solve some of the most difficult challenges facing enterprise information infrastructures,” said Eric Layman, president, 7x24 Exchange Central Virginia Chapter.

“The dynamics of today’s data center are changing at a dizzying pace – as companies now have more data to manage, new computing models to incorporate, and deeper security threats. This puts greater emphasis on power and how to handle data center energy requirements,” said Dave Mulholland, Vice President of Marketing, Service at PDI. “We look forward to adding our market insight to the already strong 7x24 Exchange brand – helping customers solve their complex power requirements.”

With nearly two dozen chapters across North America, the 7x24 Exchange is committed to improving end-to-end reliability across business-critical infrastructures by promoting an open dialogue to members. The group envisions being the largest organization of its type with target market share of 25% or more among the Top 1,000 organizations where reliability is critical to successful operations.

Eric Layman continued, “We want to keep our members ahead of the curve—providing the highest levels of uninterrupted infrastructure support. Membership is very selective, as we only want the best ideas to move the exchange forward. That’s why PDI and our other founding companies are such a good fit.”

In addition to forums, 7x24 Exchange also produces a number of key events throughout the year. The group also publishes “7x24 Exchange Magazine,” issued every spring and fall.

The Central Virginia chapter is holding its inaugural meeting on September 19, 2012, at the Peak 10 Data Center in Richmond, Virginia. To learn more about the 7x24 Exchange Central Virginia Chapter view ourvideo, join us on LinkedIn or visit our website: www.7x24CentralVA.com

New Touch Screen Monitor Measures Power from 96 Devices—At Eyelevel— Easily Obtaining Capacity Levels

Richmond, Virginia – November 1, 2011 – Power Distribution, Inc. (PDI), providers of mission-critical power management equipment for data centers, alternative energy, industrial, and commercial power markets, today announced the PowerWave Bus System™ Color Monitor. The new 7 inch, wall-mounted touch screen, color monitor is centrally located between the end feeds of multiple bus runs and extracts power data from tap off boxes and end feeds simultaneously. The company’s innovation helps minimize total devices required to manage real-time data center energy consumption.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), data centers consume as much as 20 times more energy per square foot than a typical office building. More effective energy consumption monitoring helps data center managers with capacity planning, but getting the information often proves cumbersome.

PDI’s Vice President of Marketing & Service, Dave Mulholland elaborates, “The typical power monitoring device is mounted on the end feed which is near the data center’s ceiling – this makes extracting energy consumption data difficult and expensive, as multiple conduit runs must be made to daisy chain multiple devices. The simplicity of the PowerWave Bus Color Monitor resides in its ability to be installed at eyelevel on a wall, at the server rack level. Now managers don’t need to walk the floor and climb ladders to view power consumption; they can easily identify areas where they have light or heavy power loading from a single source and use this information to drive their server adds and changes.”

The PowerWave Bus System Color Monitor may also be incorporated into existing building management systems and joins PDI’s growing family of power monitoring options, which also includes:
• BCMS Hub – An eyelevel monitoring device that measures and remotely monitors current and voltage on each individual branch circuit, gathering power consumption data from up to 240 branch circuit monitoring devices including the PowerWave Bus System and all PDI distribution equipment.
• PowerMap™ - A cloud-based software and hardware package that automatically uploads individual circuit-based power statistics and provides real-time information in a secure cloud. This solution is capable of displaying information from an unlimited number of devices (see PowerMap announcement).
